Overview

Ashcroft 1005P XUL Dry 3-1/2 in. Air Pressure Gauge

This Ashcroft Model 1005P XUL Dry Dial Air Pressure Gauge is designed to deliver +/- 3/2/3% accurate pressure ratings in a range of 0-80 Retard to 250 PSI in dry-pipe fire sprinkler system components and other dry-pipe systems. This gauge has a 1/4 in. NPT connection that threads quickly to fire sprinkler system trim to detect pressure measurements. This gauge uses a “zero-zone” rather than a conventional dial post to guarantee that the gauge reads zero only when it is truly at 0 PSI, providing an immediate indication of when a gauge is out of calibration. Ashcroft's PowerFlex design separates the bourdon tube and the link wire tube to keep stress, shocks, and vibration from traveling through the thread connection to precision parts, extending product life and accuracy. This gauge is UL Listed and FM Approved.

Why Do I Need an Air Pressure Gauge?

In a dry pipe fire sprinkler system, air gauges play a crucial role in monitoring the air pressure within the system. Unlike wet pipe systems where water is constantly present in the pipes, dry pipe systems contain pressurized air that holds back the water until a sprinkler head is activated. Air gauges are used to measure and display the air pressure within the system.

During normal operation, the air gauge provides a visual indication of the pressure in the system. It allows the building owners, maintenance personnel, or fire safety professionals to verify that the pressure is within the desired range for proper sprinkler system functionality. Adequate pressure ensures that water will be discharged from the sprinkler heads when activated, effectively suppressing, or controlling a fire.

Regular monitoring of the air gauge is important to identify any abnormal fluctuations or drops in pressure, which could indicate potential issues such as leaks and valve malfunctions. Conversely, if the air pressure is too high, it may trigger a false activation of the sprinkler heads or put unnecessary strain on the system. If the air gauge shows an abnormal reading, it should be investigated and addressed promptly to maintain the reliability of the fire sprinkler system.
