What are Class I / Type 1 Acoustics?

Class I (Type 1) acoustics refers to a classification system used for sound level meters and microphones. It is a standard defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in the IEC 61672-1:2013 standard for electroacoustics - sound level meters - Part 1: Specifications. The IEC is an international organization that sets standards for electrical and electronic technologies, including acoustics and sound measurement.

Class I sound level meters are typically used in professional and regulatory applications where high accuracy and precision are essential. These instruments are commonly employed in acoustical engineering, environmental noise monitoring, noise control, and compliance with noise regulations and standards.

In context of alarm systems, ensuring acoustic measurements are up to standards is very important to help ensure the safety of your building and the people in it.
